Vortex chimney with natural convection http://www.premioinnovazione.legambiente.org/edizioni/2003/schede/64.html
Italian Patent N° 0001312831 (may 2002) http://www.uibm.gov.it/dati/Avanzata.aspx Inventor: Leonardo Antonio Vulcano
The invention aims to generate artificial wind produced in a cylindrical metal structure (chimney), exploiting the difference in density of two gas streams: the first being air cooled by evaporation of water spray at the top of the structure and the second hot smoke coming out of certain industrial processes (waste incineration, gas turbine or steam generators of power).
Unlike the Dan Zaslavsky "Energy Tower" project in the Negev desert (Israel), which exploits the difference in density between the air cooled by evaporation of water and outdoor hot and dry air, making that the structure is only suitable for the climate inside hot deserts, the idea is to highlight the "hot springs" of industrial processes that emit gaseous masses at temperatures much higher than the external, regularly and consistently throughout the day and therefore not subject to seasonal variations. The advantage is that this type of plant with tall chimneys can also be used in moderate climates.
